The British Cycling Trail Leader Award (formerly known as the Mountain Bike Leader Level 2 Award) is the ideal starting point for experienced off-road cyclists—whether mountain bikers, gravel riders, or e-bike enthusiasts—who want to use their skills to safely guide others on off-road terrain.
The award is ideal for anyone, who is either working in the outdoor sector, volunteering at a club, looking to start up their own lead MTB rides or simply has a personal interest in gaining additional skills.

The British Cycling Trail Leader Assessment (formerly known as the Mountain Bike Leader Level 2 Award) consists of an e-learning assessment followed by a 1 day practical assessment. A minimum period of 6 weeks is recommended between training and assessment. This will give you time to fully understand your training.

The Level 3 Leadership Training – aimed at experienced and qualified leaders who are ready to take the next step and increase their ability to create inspiring and lasting experiences.

The Level 3 Leadership Assessment comprises a formal two-day practical assessment, and a written assignment. Our assessment procedure is designed to help you further develop your skills as a mountain bike leader.

The Mountain Bike Night Leader Award enables existing qualified mountain bike leaders to lead beyond the hours of daylight, extending the opportunities to lead through twilight and darkness.
