British Cycling Level 3 Leadership Training

The Cyclewise British Cycling Level 3 Leadership Training Course is a premier advanced training program tailored for aspiring mountain bike leaders. Established in collaboration with Cyclewise and British Cycling in 2010, this course offers an in-depth exploration of advanced mountain biking techniques and leadership skills. Ideal for those aiming to lead mountain biking groups through challenging terrains, the course ensures participants gain comprehensive skills in navigation, risk management, technical riding, and group dynamics.

Training Overview
Our Level 3 course is specifically designed for experienced mountain bikers, building upon the knowledge gained from Level 2. Participants will cover:
- Advanced Trailside Repairs: Acquire techniques for maintaining bikes in challenging conditions.
- Route Planning & Navigation: Explore strategies for planning and navigating technical trails.
- Group Management: Utilize effective methods for managing groups in technical terrain.
- Risk Assessment & Emergency Management: Develop skills for assessing risks and handling emergencies.
- Hydration & Nutrition: Emphasize proper hydration and nutrition practices.
- Attentional Focus: Enhance concentration techniques during rides.
Prerequisites
To enroll, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have completed Level 2 (or TCL/MBL Award).
- Demonstrate proficiency in handling black-graded terrain, including skills such as step-ups, bunny-hops, and drop-offs.
- Show competence in map reading, navigation, and bike mechanical systems.
- Hold a current two-day outdoor First Aid certificate.
Preparation Requirements
Before starting the course, participants should:
- Logbook: Submit an up-to-date logbook detailing at least 30 quality riding days post-Level 2. Ensure that 12 of these rides are as a group leader or assistant leader.
- Recent Rides: Most rides should be within the past 12-18 months and include diverse UK locations.
Upon enrollment, you will receive the Level 3 Mountain Bike Leadership Award training materials along with access to the online learning program. Prepare to elevate your mountain biking leadership skills and inspire others with confidence through this advanced course.
Instructor Ratio: 1:6 or 2:8 maximum
