We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Cycle Retail Store Manager. Ideally an individual with a passion for cycling and driven to achieve sales, to be responsible for one of our busy & successful shops in Cumbria, capable of taking it to the next level. The role plays a key part in the Cyclewise business, which delivers a diverse range of cycle related services.


About Us:

Cyclewise is an independent business with two busy cycle stores in Cumbria. Cyclewise Whinlatter is our trail centre & bike hire store specialising in mountain bikes and electric MTBs. Cyclewise Cockermouth is our esteemed road, e-Bike, adventure and leisure bike store. In addition to cycle retail and mountain bike hire, we provide expert workshop services, a range of mountain bike skills coaching, British Cycling MTB leadership courses, Bikeability training in schools, technical expertise & consultancy, and an e-commerce operation. The industry is exciting and challenging with customers increasingly accessing our products and services across all channels.


About the role:
As a Store Manager at Cyclewise, you are empowered to create and lead a dynamic, successful, and passionate retail bike shop team. You will be key member of the operational team that reports directly to the directors. Responsible for maximising sales of our high-end and quality brands of bikes, eBikes, clothing and accessories ranges, both instore and online.

As a manager your contributions will impact on the success of the business and you have the opportunity to design and mould this progressive, forward-moving enterprise, in an ever-changing retail landscape.



  • Accountable for the daily retail and workshop services through management of the shop team.
  • Responsible for sales conversions of bikes & equipment
  • Responsible for maintaining in-store stock control & visual merchandising
  • Responsible for opening / closing daily procedures, including cash handling and key holder duties.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of customer journey phases – Awareness, Sales, Follow-Up
  • Oversee the scheduling of workshop jobs (repair, maintenance, walk-in and bike build) and diagnose repair & maintenance work needed on customer bikes.
  • Provide quality assurance in bike retail and workshop repairs
  • Identify opportunities for sales growth in our product range and services
  • Able to ensure all customers receive an excellent experience across the services offered, ensuring the team are trained and delivering the highest possible standards.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and/or training of new staff.
  • Ensure all staff have the knowledge, skills, and motivation to reach goals
  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment for customers and staff at all times
  • Managing inventory processes, including ordering, receiving and pricing.
  • Create buy plans for the business and responsible for stock management.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate data on our retail management system.
  • Organise and merchandise products cleanly and creatively.
  • Coordinate events such as demo days and themed promotional events.
  • Oversee shop communications on social media and the posting of bikes & accessories on the company website.


About You:

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, high level of energy, confidence and resourcefulness. You will need to have minimum 2-years sales experience and be knowledgeable about the cycle industry. You will be expected to lead the store from the shop floor and remain hands on at all times. Previous experience in managing a cycle retail shop and product buying is desirable. You will ideally have proficient bike mechanic skills and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.


About Salary & Hours of Work:

We offer a competitive salary depending on experience- from £25,000 pa, a generous staff discount on cycle-related product, a company pension scheme, 28 days holiday per year (including bank holidays)


The position is based at Cyclewise Cockermouth located at Cockermouth, Cumbria and is surrounded by stunning northern Lakes scenery. The role will be full time, 40 hours per week, spread across five days – a 3 week rolling rota.
