Womens Skills

Why a womens only course? From past experience on our skills courses we have found some women prefer to learn in a more 'supportive' all girl environment. Read more for more information about this testosterone free course!

SMBLA led Womens SKills courses at WhinlatterAlthough it is nice to have the “support” of a partner or friend, sometimes it is good to have the opportunity to learn at your own pace with someone who is not resenting the fact that they could have been somewhere else, with their mates, having what they would refer to as  a "proper ride"!
Learning from the experiences of our own partners we have come up with a Core Skills course designed to give a female rider the chance to come along and learn without the pressure they can sometimes find themselves under from a more confident / able riding partner.

So what are the Core Skills ?

Weight shift and the cone of movement- If you don't move you will fall off, this is where riding starts.
Trackstands -The ability to balance, the most important skill to learn when it comes to riding a mountain bike.
Manual front wheel lifts -The ability to lift the front wheel over an obstacle using body position and weight shift.
Power assisted front wheel lifts -The ability to lift the front wheel at slow speed over an obstacle whilst climbing.
Rear wheel lifts -The ability to lift the rear wheel over an obstacle.
As well as the 4 core skills we give you a thorough break down and understanding of Climbing, Descending and Braking.

Once you have got to grips with the techniques you will be given the opportunity to transfer these skills to the trail on day 2 under the guidance of our expert coaches. Using video feedback we will show you where you are going wrong and right and show you how much more you can get from your biking with these skills in place.

You are guaranteed a great time and will leave bursting with confidence, new techniques and the ability to tackle obstacles and terrain you never thought you would. You may even be able to show those back at home a trick or two!

Instructor Ratio: 1:6 max
Course Cost
: £140 for 2 days
Course Venue: Whinlatter
When you come along on a Cyclewise course you will be given a voucher that entitles you to 10% off shop purchases for the duration of your course and 10% of your next course booking. (excludes SMBLA Assessments)
