British Cycling Level 2 Leadership Award

Cyclewise is very excited to announce that we have signed a Delivery agreement with British Cycling and will now be delivering the NEW British Cycling MTB Level 2 Leadership Award from our MTB centre at Whinlatter. The agreement follows recent changes in the ownership of Mountain Bike Leadership Award (MBLA), which now falls under the auspices of Scottish Cycling and has created a new opportunity for the future of MTB leadership in the U.K. Both Scottish Cycling and British Cycling have agreed in principle to bring the Awards together as a unified governing body award and have committed to working towards this over the coming year.
With the new agreement in place, we have taken the decision to cease delivery of all MBLA training courses and will instead now only be delivering the new British Cycling MTB Leadership Award. We will, however, continue to deliver TCL assessments and MBL assessments until July 2012 after which time they will cease all delivery of the MBLA scheme. After that time please visit www.scottishcycling.org.uk for a list of assessment opportunities.

Based at Whinlatter Forest, Cyclewise bring 10 years of MTB leadership experience to the agreement, much to the delight of John Mills, Coaching, Education and Development Director at British Cycling, who has welcomed the incoming expertise to what is set to become a very active delivery programme. He said: “It is a great opportunity for us to strengthen our delivery program and ensure candidates are able to receive the best possible leadership training at a location that suits them.“As an organisation, we are extremely proud of the qualification having put a great amount of time and effort into ensuring the qualification is as good as it can possibly be. This agreement is further recognition of our reputation and it gives me great pleasure to be in a position to further reinforce our links with Cyclewise.”

The British Cycling Level 2 Leadership Award consists of a two day training course followed by a one day assessment (for use in AALA defined non-licensable terrain) All Cyclewise MTB Leadership courses run on a ratio of 1:6 or 2:10 from our fantastic British Cycling approved centre of excellence at Whinlatter Forest Park.

The British Cycling Level 2 Leadership Award is an ideal qualification for anyone who works in Outdoor Centres, Guiding Companies, Schools, Youth Groups etc or anyone who may be looking to do this in the future or just has an interest in mountain biking, improving their skills and gaining a qualification that gives them all the information to go out, have fun and be safe.

You must register with British Cycling before you attend the training course. Upon registration you will be sent by BC a 'Leadership Pack' which you are required to bring along to the course with you. You should also bring along a copy of your first aid certificate and details of your Educare programme. (see below for more details).
Failure to register with BC will mean that you can not attend the training course. A registration form and all our course details will be sent to you once we have received your booking form. Leadership Course Changes

Cyclewise has been at the forefront of MTB leadership training in the U.K. for almost ten years and we are very excited to announce that we have signed an agreement with British Cycling and will be delivering the new British Cycling MTB Leadership Awards.

Recent changes in the ownership of MBLA which now falls  under the auspices of  Scottish Cycling, has created a new opportunity for the future of MTB leadership in the U.K. Both Scottish Cycling and British Cycling have agreed in principle to bring the Awards together as a unified governing body award and have committed to working towards this over the coming year.

With our new agreement with British Cycling we have taken the decision to cease delivery of all MBLA training courses and will instead now only be delivering the new British Cycling MTB Leadership Award. We will continue to deliver TCL assessments and MBL assessments until July 2012 after which time we will cease all delivery of the MBLA scheme. After that time please visit www.scottishcycling.org.uk for a list of assessment opportunities.

Inevitably these changes raise many questions for our clients who may already be fully qualified or part way through the MBLA training pathway.  Currently no transfer pathway exists between British Cycling and MBLA, however, it is hoped that with the creation of a unified award a clear and easy conversion pathway can be introduced.

In the meantime all MBLA qualified leaders will continue to be recognised by both organisations.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to know more about the new British Cycling Leadership qualifications.
