Cyclewise Training is the U.K's premier mountain bike training company and the first professional training company to offer the Scottish Mountain Bike Leader Awards (SMBLA) in England. Using our vast wealth of knowledge and experience we specialise in qualifying mountain bikers to become guides / leaders, this has lead to our involvement in writing the skills chapters for the British & Scottish Cycling Handbook and the world famous 7 Stanes Skills Boards. We have also been instumental in the development of the new Altura Trail and Blue Route at Whinlatter Forest in the Lake District. 

Based at the head of the 20km Altura Trail our brand new Shop/Bike Hire Centre and MTB Course Venue (Cyclewise Whinlatter) offers you a wide range of services including a UK top 10 Shimano approved workshop, extensive range of riding kit, quality cube bikes to hire or buy and some of the most honest and professional advice available. From this fantastic venue at Whinlatter we deliver a full range of MTB Courses to suit all ages and abilities, these courses are delivered by the most experienced and dedicated coaches / instructors in the U.K and their passion and enthusiasm for the sport of Mountain Biking is highly infectious. We also now have our very own purpose built Cyclewise Coaching Trail at Whinlatter which is for the exclusive use of our coaches and clients. Our comprehensive list of courses, professionalism and outstanding service make us one of the best trail centres in the U.K and your "one stop shop for all things biking".

We are also proud to deliver the new National Standard 'Bikeability' Training to over 3000 children in Cumbria each year giving us the opportunity to work with the cyclists of the future and promote cycling as a safe and fun way to travel and a great sport to become involved with.

As SMBLA Senior Tutors we can offer Trail Cycle Leader (TCL) and Mountain Bike Leader (MBL) Training & Assessments.
These courses are recognised by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS) previously known as AALA and British Cycling (BC) the internationally recognised governing body for cycle sport in Britain. All our SMBLA courses are run with 2 tutors which means that not only do you receive very thorough training and great value for your money, you also get the chance to ride some of the best mountain bike trails the Lake District has to offer with some of the most experienced mountain bike guides in the country. Many guiding / training companies have been qualified by Cyclewise Training as well as Outdoor Instructors, Teachers, Youth Group Leaders, The Army, Police and professional Mountain Bikers.

It is becoming more and more important to provide best practice and for the purpose of risk assessments all mountain bike leaders are recommended to hold relevant qualifications of which the SMBLA scheme has become the industries leading award. As key members of the SMBLA committee Rich and Craig are actively involved in many working groups advancing these awards into the future. We can also offer our services as Mountain Bike Technical Advisors to your centre or organisation. We have experience of AALS inspections and can advise on current legislation for this activity.

We also run a variety of Maintenance Courses  and a comprensive list of Skills Courses from our venue at Whinlatter or throughout the U.K to meet group requirements. These courses not only have a fantastic reputation, but also offer great value for money. Throughout the holidays we also offer Family Biking sessions, we are extremely keen to promote cycling for all and hope these courses will encourage more families to take up the sport of Mountain Biking.
